If it wasn’t for this place, life wouldn’t be worth living on my own. You come to the activities, and it’s just so joyous, it’s so lovely.

It gets me out of the house, and you know you’re going to be welcomed.

This place is a lifeline for me. Sometimes you get to the point where you just don’t bother with life anymore, you just get stuck. Coming here every week has changed that for me. Everybody is so friendly, and so lovely, I’m a little bit disabled, and everyone helps me to manage and get about.

“I was born in Bramham in Leeds, and moved to this area when I was 2 years old. I started working at the Burtons factory down the road at 14 and I worked there for 37 years, before working at Lewis’s. I had two children, and my sons live locally too. I’m 95 so that means I’ve been living in Burmantofts for 90 odd years now! And a lot has changed. I’ve been coming to this place (Burmantofts Senior Action) for 10 years, first with my sister but after she moved away nearer to her children, I’ve made lots of friends. I’ll talk to anyone; I’m known for being chatty. I met my good friends here, and you meet such a lot of different people. I think what the team does, considering there are only a few of them is incredible and it’s very much appreciated.
