What Our Volunteers Say

Helping me feel good about myself again

I’ve been volunteering for 14 months now, after I lost my husband, who I’d nursed, I found that I had lots of time on my hands. As an older person volunteering is as good for me as it is for the members. It’s like therapy for me, it’s helped me feel good about myself again, you don’t think about your problems because you’re too busy. I love the older ladies I work with, they’re wonderful and it’s the highlight of the week for me to help out at the lunch club. We are a good team of volunteers here and we all work together to support the older people.

Making people feel at home

I’ve been involved from the beginning, since 1995, when I was still working but since I’ve retired, I’m always here helping with everything I can. Our role as volunteers is to make it fun, have a laugh and make people feel at home. We pick up any issues people might be facing when they come to an activity, and we pass it onto the staff so they can give the right support. It’s a family, everyone knows one another.
