What will an Engagement Support Volunteer do?
It’s simple—your role is to bring joy and support to our weekly sessions! You’ll help welcome people, set up session rooms, serve refreshments, play games, run quizzes, support attendees, and make sure everyone feels comfortable and included. It’s a mix of activities, and you’ll be supported by the BCF staff while making new friends along the way. Our sessions run Monday to Friday, so you can volunteer around your other commitments.
What experience do you need?
None at all! We’re not looking for any previous experience. All you need is a positive attitude, a desire to help, and a willingness to get stuck in. We’ll provide the rest!

Call Companion:

What Will a Call Companion Do?
As a Call Companion, you’ll offer friendship and support over the phone to members who are feeling isolated or lonely. You’ll provide a friendly ear, chat with them, and help them feel connected. Your calls will last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, giving your member something to look forward to each week! Need to be available on Thursday’s from 1PM till 3PM.
What Experience Do You Need?
No experience necessary! All you need is a positive attitude, a willingness to help, and the desire to make a difference. We’ll provide all the training you need. We’re based near the city centre, with great transport links.
Key Tasks:

What will an Administrator Volunteer do?
This role is perfect for individuals who love working behind the scenes, are detail-oriented, and enjoy keeping things organised! As an Admin Volunteer, you’ll help keep the wheels of our organisation turning smoothly by tackling important tasks that make our projects and events a success. Plus, you’ll have the chance to connect with and support our amazing elderly community, bringing smiles and making a positive impact in their lives. Whether you’re organising paperwork or lending a hand to our members, your contribution will make everything run like clockwork – and have a lot of fun along the way!

What Will a Travel Motivator Do?
As a Travel Motivator, you’ll play a key role in helping our service users become more confident and independent when traveling locally. You’ll receive all the training you need to support them on their journey, with the goal of empowering them to travel independently within 12 weeks. It’s all about motivation, encouragement, and helping them gain the confidence they need to navigate their community on their own!
What Experience Do You Need?
No specific experience required! We’re looking for passionate individuals who want to make a positive impact and are eager to learn. Whether you’re retired and looking to make use of your spare time, a student or job seeker wanting to develop new skills, or someone who lives locally (or nearby – our location is super easy to reach from the city centre), we want to hear from you! Local knowledge is a bonus, but it’s not essential – we’re all about making a difference, no matter your background.

What Will a Kitchen Volunteer Do?
As a Kitchen Volunteer with Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF), you will be an essential part of supporting local residents aged 55+ in the LS9 area. Your primary role will be to prepare and serve nutritious, tasty meals to older residents. You will work alongside staff and other volunteers to plan, cook, and serve meals at community events or regular weekly activities. Your efforts will help promote healthy eating, socialisation, and community engagement, creating a warm and welcoming environment for seniors to gather and connect.
What Experience Do You Need?
No specific experience required! Preferably someone is a cook, an ex-cook, or absolutely loves being in a kitchen! We’re looking for passionate individuals who want to make a positive impact and are eager to learn. Whether you’re retired and looking to make use of your spare time, a student or job seeker wanting to develop new skills, or someone who lives locally (or nearby – our location is super easy to reach from the city centre), we want to hear from you! What Will a Community Driver Volunteer Do?
As a Community Driver Volunteer with Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF), you will play a vital role in supporting local residents aged 55+ in the LS9 area. Your main responsibility will be providing safe and reliable transport for individuals attending our fun activities, events, fitness sessions, trips, and other community services. You’ll assist people with mobility challenges, ensuring they have a comfortable and stress-free journey to and from our services. This might include driving to lunch groups, coffee mornings, outings, and well-being sessions, helping to create positive and inclusive experiences for all. Please note the vehicle is an Automatic*
What Experience Do You Need?
Driving License: A valid driving license and a good driving record are essential, along with the ability to safely operate a medium vehicle. Training is provided.
Empathy and Patience: Previous experience working with older adults, or individuals with mobility challenges, is helpful, but a caring, patient, and understanding attitude is most important.
Good Communication: Clear communication skills are essential to interact with passengers, understand their needs, and maintain positive relationships.
Reliability and Punctuality: Being dependable and arriving on time for pick-ups and drop-offs is key to ensuring participants can rely on the service.
Teamwork: While the role is independent, being able to work well with the BCF team and follow instructions or changes in schedule is important.
Basic Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations and address minor challenges that may arise during transportation (e.g., ensuring a passenger’s comfort or managing a last-minute schedule change).
BCF provides full training and support, so even if you do not have direct experience, we welcome your enthusiasm and willingness to help others!
